Meet Tom
Tom is a third generation Floridian from Jacksonville. Fishing, playing
baseball, helping his father build houses and keeping his heavy
equipment in working order occupied most of his time through high
school. After graduating from Bishop Kenny HS, Tom enlisted in the U.S.
Army and later worked at the Kennedy Space Center during the Apollo
(moon landing) program.
While working and raising his family Tom completed a BA degree from the
University of Central Florida in Psychology and Engineering (focus in
human factors). Later while working with the Florida Departments of
Labor and Vocational Rehabilitation Tom was accepted into and completed
the Masters degree program in Rehabilitation Services (advanced problem
solving) from Florida State University.
In 1976 Tom accepted a management position in Tampa with an
international risk management company. It was a unique opportunity to
apply his skills to the human resource and risk management problems that
businesses encounter.
Tom and his wife Barbara met in Tampa and have lived in the Northwest
section of the county for over 27 years. Tom has two daughters and
three grandchildren.

In
1979, Tom started his own company which grew into multiple locations
providing problem analysis and solutions for Employers. 1979 was also
the beginning of Tom’s journey into State government by way of improving
our Workers’ Compensation system.
His gift for listening, analyzing, designing, and problem solving grew
with each step he took in life. Tom has also applied his rare
combination of education and experience with complex computer, health
and human services, business, government, and administrative systems to
our community issues.
Tom’s community involvement has: added neighborhood protection against
cell phone towers; begun the lake management campaign; worked on our
transportation projects; helped prevent and deal with substance abuse
problems at home, schools, and work; helped usher in the first Community
based development plan; sat on two of the largest special maintenance
and civic association boards; and pushed for sensible development and
land use for our County.
“Throughout my personal, business, professional, and community life I
have been an active listener and Proactive Problem Solver.”
“My promise to you as County Commissioner is to confront and with your
help resolve our current District, County, and Regional issues and set
our course for the future”.
With great regard,
Tom Aderhold
